Introducing Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery technology from Energon Solutions.
Known as “Li-Fe”, Lithium Iron Phosphate was first discovered in 1996 in Texas by John Goodenough.
Li-Fe shares many of the advantages and disadvantages of other Lithium Ion Chemistries. Its main advantages compared with Lithium Polymer are based around its high energy density, light weight, safety and improved cycle life when compared to other Lithium based batteries (LiFePO4 being used as the cathode material instead of Lithium Cobalt dioxide -LiCoO2) this results in a far greater resistance to thermal runaway and greatly improves the cycle life.
The initial markets were founded around hand tools, (cordless drills etc). Where the new technology was rapidly adopted. Its largest opportunity is in the electric car market where it is the technology of choice for the major car manufacturers.
LiFePO4 is an extremely stable energy source when compared to other lithium based technolgies, it is able to offer high end power to demanding applications, safely and effectively.
